Thanks. Still looks weird. I may be remembering things wrong, but I was under the impression the rotary engines had several combustion *chambers* that formed when the triangular rotor came around. Maybe it’s just a low budget for the animation.

My understanding is that combustion is left until the mid-point of the cycle, just before the exhaust gasses are expelled. I’m hardly an expert, though. (Relevant bit of the video starts around the 1:50 mark.)

I obviously had it all wrong, the combustion *chamber* moves with the rotor. Thanks for indulging my curiosity.
